'The Sainsbury Centre is delighted to display important and rarely seen landscapes by Claude Monet and David Hockney on loan from private collections.
Allee de sapins a` Varengeville (Avenue of Fir Trees in Varengeville) of 1882 is a stunning Impressionist painting made on one of Monet’s frequent visits to the Normandy coast. It is a superb example of the innovative technique of plein air landscape painting, or painting outdoors, to fully capture the effects of light.
Equally pioneering are David Hockney’s Yosemite iPad drawings made into enlarged prints that illustrate his constant desire to experiment and innovate.'
